Our newest edition to the kennel arrived today. "Brooke" came to us from Texas via Brian and Debbie Carnahan. She is very well bred and her pedigree is here. We look forward to some amazing things down the road with this pup. She should also have some great pups in a couple years.

Duke stayed in Coolidge on Monday with Mike from CSRanch Kennels to run 2 more braces. Duke blew his 2 front pads toward the end of his second brace but still managed to find 4 birds and take home a third place on Monday. Good start to his NSTRA career.

We finally found some quail down south. Got into a decent amount of birds and Duke got to point some of them. Birds held pretty good too. Still have some work to do on force fetch. All in all, it was a good day.

Went out to a top secret place today and finally found some quail. My first ever scallies. We found 2 HUGE covies and busted them up. Duke is getting better retrieving. Nice to have a dog find your downed birds. Overall, a great day of hunting following a snow storm.

Trial last weekend went ok. Duke hunted like a champ and is getting better every week. Didnt place and still dont know why, but that was the least of my concerns...

Saturday night, Duke got really sick. I took him out of his kennel and his face was so swollen up that he could barely see out of his eyes and was having a hard time breathing. I tried to call numerous vets with no response at 830 at night. I ran across town as fast as possible (through 2 DUI checkpoints) to pickup some benadryl. With my luck, Safeway was packed and only 1 line open to checkout. Not a good site...

I called the trial secretary and she said there was a vet on the trial grounds. I spoke with Tom and he said to bring him back to the grounds and he could treat him right there. He also said to give him some benadryl, but I couldnt get it down his throat and was not going to fight him either. After an hour drive (which seemed like forever), Dr. Pescod saved my dogs life. He said that Duke injested something that gave him a bad allergic reaction. Gave him an IV of steroids and watched him for the rest of the night. Also said that its pretty common, but scary nonetheless.
